| Whistle-blower says Miami politician pressured firm
Conway's 181-page deposition, taken Jan. 16, describes a lunch at Coconut Grove's Mr. Moe's just weeks before commissioners' vote. At that lunch, she testified, Cuervo received a call from Related lobbyist Rosario Kennedy. ''After she got off the phone with Ms. Kennedy, she shared with us that she was a bit exasperated,'' Conway said of Cuervo. The reason, according to Conway: Spence-Jones' office, having already demanded that Related hire Carey-Shuler as a consultant, now wanted a second person hired. That second person, she testified, was Barbara Hardemon, a strategist on Spence-Jones' 2005 campaign. When asked why the hires happened, Conway replied: ``The implication was for the commissioner's support.'' Kennedy, the lobbyist and one-time city commissioner, denies such a conversation with Cuervo took place.
Recognizing Israel
As i mentioned in last letter, the minority vote of Turkey, Egypt, Jordan and Fatah represents only 10 percent of 1.5 billion people of Islam. You have 90 percent in large countries like Indonesia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia,Sudan, Nigeria,Algeria, Morroco,Syria and dozens of other countries, who are on waiting game and expecting for conditional changed behaviour of the party of recognition issue. Even in Pakistan, the vast majority pulls their president out of his dance of recognition each time he gets into mood of doing this not so popular dance for the Islamic world.Mr Qazi, you have to bow to the majority if you really love democracy. There is nothin wrong in recognizing any thing if they respect you as equal and do not engage into inner islamic bleeding, divisiveness, neglect and deigning as third class people. The Islamic world today is badly burning and is being destroyed by the very militristic policicies of America and masterly prodding by Israel of sole super power.
US-UZBEKISTAN RELATIONS: ANOTHER STEP TOWARD RAPPROCHEMENT?
Admiral William Fallon, head of the US Central Command, is expected to stop in Uzbekistan during his Central Asian tour. The visit marks an intensification of US efforts to block Russia from strengthening its energy position in Central Asia. As Central Asias most populous nation, Uzbekistan is a vital player in the regional geopolitical and energy development games being waged by the United States, the European Union, Russia and China. Tashkent controls a relatively small amount of natural resources, mostly natural gas. But many of the export routes out of Central Asia cross Uzbek territory. [For additional information see the Eurasia Insight archive]. Relations between Washington and Brussels, on the one hand, and Tashkent on the other have been in a deep freeze since Uzbek security forces opened fire on unarmed civilians in Andijan in 2005.
Judge issues gag order in Broward murder trial
A Broward judge on Monday issued a rare gag order for all attorneys, police investigators and witnesses in a case involving three then-teenagers charged with first-degree murder in the 2006 fatal beating of a Fort Lauderdale homeless man. Broward Circuit Judge Cynthia Imperato said she will decide Tuesday whether to bar the media and the public from a hearing in which a videotaped statement from one of the suspects will be played in court. ''The instant case has already garnered a great amount of national and local coverage,'' according to Imperato's gag order, 'and this court believes that some extra-judicial comments may very well have already been prejudicial to the respective parties' rights.'' Defense attorneys have argued that the publicity the case has garnered will taint a potential jury and make it impossible for their clients to get a fair trial.
A new ID system will make US citizens more secure, according to the ...
The Department of Homeland Security (DOHS) originally estimated a total cost of the program at $14.6 billion USD, the cost of which would be shared amongst the states. Now, the DOHS is stating that it will only cost $3.9 billion USD total. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has been vocally opposing the initiative, which they say violates citizens' rights to privacy. Furthermore, they point to instances of what happened in Britain, and say that with more proliferated citizen data throughout the federal and state government, it will be far easier to lose citizen's valuable private information. The ACLU says the initiative is effectively the "first-ever national identity card system," and "would irreparably damage the fabric of American life." The over 50 exemption was given to help give states time to adjust their older citizens to the law. However, even the older folks will need one of the new IDs in order to board a plane by 2017.
Is US on Brink of War with Iran?
As having worked for a multi-national Corp before, I can tell you that these corporations would rather deal with absolute dictators than a finicky democracy. In fact what neo-Cons fear more than anything is democracy. Look at Hugo Chavez, Allende and Guzman (Guatemala 1954) for concrete examples! But probably the best example of anti-democratic forces at work is here at home when the MSM excludes any candidate that threatens runaway corporate theft. Reuters (which is owned by Thomson Corporation as in Thomson Health Care) for example has shown that on their political website (http://www.reuters.com/news/politics) that they will now give daily updates to all of the Dem. and Rep. candidates. Bill Richardson, who dropped out, is included yet Dennis Kucinich is the only candidate from either party that is excluded.
