Musharraf met Barak over Iran, Israelis say
Paul Jones from kitchener, Canada writes: I don't think Israel has any right to speak out about Irans (legal) Nuclear program considering Israels (illegal) Nuclear program. >>>I think Israel has the same right to speak about anything with anybody as you have right to write your inane comments. Long volunteer stints a heavy burden for wives
FORT BRAGG, N.C. — During the worst of Bravo Troop's 15-month tour in Iraq, when soldiers were dying in bunches, families here poured out their fear, frustrations and even hysteria onto one young woman: Bana Miller. She's not Army. She's not trained. Her only qualification, then at age 24, was being an officer's wife who volunteered to run Bravo Troop's Family Readiness Group — a job of e-mailing and organizing potluck dinners in peacetime. But when Bravo went to war, she became a social worker, grief counselor and a 24-hour hotline overnight. At various times, wives threatened to commit themselves to a mental institution or go to the media if Miller did not help bring their husbands home. "I was in this alternative universe thinking: 'What has my life become?' " says Miller, who grew up in the Main Line suburbs of Philadelphia and married the boy she met in seventh grade.
Ledger Dad Impersonator Dupes Bullshit-Swallowing Nut Tom Cruise
A man claiming to be Heath Ledger's father Kim has been trying to scam stars. Weirdly he's been targeting Scientologists like Tom Cruise and John Travolta. (There's always been confusion between the two.) Actually, targeting Scientologists is a pretty genius plan. They clearly fall for bullshit and are quick to part with their money. Of all potential marks the man approached, it was Tom Cruise, the only man who can do anything about anything, who fell for the ruse the hardest. According to the Post, "The hoax began soon after Ledger, 28, was found dead...by the next day, a man claiming to be Kim Ledger managed to get Cruise on the phone, a source said." And guess what? Cruise believed the bullshit! Who would have thought!?! Over the next few days, he "had had a couple of conversations with" Cruise, asking for emotional support, said the source.
WRAPUP 1-NY bond insurer bailout plan too late-CreditSights
New York State Insurance Superintendent Eric Dinallo is working with banks to figure out how to rescue the industry, people briefed in the matter said last week, but there are so many competing interests involved that any solution will not likely come in time, CreditSights said. If bond insurers lose their top ratings and funds are forced to sell off billions of dollars of insured debt, an outcome regulators are hoping to prevent. U.S. bond insurers guarantee more than $2.4 trillion of debt. The outlook for bond insurers has deteriorated in recent months, but some investors are still hopeful. Share prices of the two largest such insurers, Ambac Financial Group Inc (ABK.N: Quote, Profile, Research) and MBIA Inc (MBI.N: Quote, Profile, Research), surged on Thursday amid talk that ratings for Ambac's main insurance unit were close to being affirmed.
Sociologists Say Allegedly Ukrainian Organizations Conducted ...
Sociologists are saying that allegedly Ukrainian sociology organizations have conducted the provocative exit polls at the January 5 presidential elections in Georgia. They announced this at a press conference. In particular, the Democratic Initiatives foundation has announced that Ukrainians conducted pseudo-exit polls at the presidential elections in Georgia. Research manager of the foundation Iryna Bekeshkina said that Ukrainian observers in Georgia could see manipulations with public opinion, namely a pseudo-exit poll that was conducted by allegedly Ukrainian sociology organizations. «On the voting day, the organizations acting under the Ukrainian brand, namely the Common European Business and the Democracy Development Dialogue foundation, announced that they were conducting an alternative exit poll,» Bekeshkina said.
Internet earnings week points up uncertainties
Sources familiar with the plan say fewer than 1,000 employees could lose jobs about half what was rumoured on some blog sites. Yahoo's fourth-quarter profit is seen down 31 per cent to 11 cents per diluted share, while Google is slated to post a 40 per cent rise, excluding stock options and one-time items. "We think at the moment, the most negative scenario for Yahoo is fully priced in," Lindsay said. Yahoo shares, which closed 5.3 per cent down Monday at $20.78, are down nearly 40 per cent from year-high levels in late October. He said Yahoo is likely to lose highly profitable broadband partnerships with AT&T Inc. and others in the next 18 months, while warning of further weakness in its corporate brand advertising business as the U.S. economy hits the skids.
