Lieberman Rules Out Running With McCain
Sen. Joe Lieberman, an independent who nearly won the vice presidency as a Democrat in 2000, says there's no way he'll be Republican Sen. John McCain's running mate should McCain become the party's presidential nominee. "No, I'd tell him, 'Thanks, John, I've been there, I've done that. You can find much better,'" Lieberman told The Associated Press during an interview Tuesday in his Senate office. "I'm not seeking anything else." The Connecticut senator said he was unequivocally ruling out sharing the GOP ticket with McCain. Lieberman's endorsement of McCain in December and the campaigning he since has done in states such as New Hampshire, Michigan, South Carolina and Florida have stoked speculation that the Arizona senator might choose Lieberman as his running mate.
LSU senior overcomes 'struggles' vs. Kentucky
Fowles faced up and buried a 5-foot jumper during a game-opening 12-0 surge. Right after Kentucky scored its first basket, Fowles came back down and made a 5-foot turnaround and followed that up with a sweeping hook in the lane over her 6-6 counterpart — Sarah Elliott. "Even when she’s off the block, when she jumps up, she’s right there at the basket," Kentucky coach Matthew Mitchell said. "She’s just a hard-working player. What I respect about her is that she clearly has more talent than anybody on the floor, but is working harder." Fowles also showed off a one-dribble drive off an inbounds play. She took the pass, dribbled in from just under the free-throw line and made a one-handed shot during a 14-3 run for LSU that turned into a 41-23 halftime cushion.
1984 Republican Party Platform
This year, the American people will choose between two diametrically opposed visions of what America should be. The Republican Party looks at our people and sees a new dawn of the American spirit. The Democratic Party looks at our nation and sees the twilight of the American soul. Republicans affirm that now, as throughout history, the spiritual and intellectual genius of the American people will create a better nation and maintain a just peace. To Republicans, creativity and growth are imperatives for a new era of opportunity for all. The Republican Party's vision of America's future, the heart of our 1984 Platform, begins with a basic premise: From freedom comes opportunity; from opportunity comes growth; from growth comes progress.
Jury-rigged, jerry-built: Maybe a problem?
The word had popped up the week before in The New York Times Magazine article, "The Sleep-Industrial Complex," all about the mattress and pharmaceutical industries. The piece included a reference to a man who was such an enthusiast for Sleep Number Beds that he "jury-rigged something similar for his bulldog." On the subject of exactly how the dog expressed its preference for a particular Sleep Number, the author was silent. Jury-rigging is a term with nautical origins. "Rig" is one of those little words so short that it contains nearly infinite meanings (an early form of nanotechnology). One of its meanings is "the arrangement of masts, sails, etc., on a vessel." In the days of the tall ships, when a vessel on the high seas lost a mast in a storm or a battle, the ship's carpenter would fashion what was known as a jury mast from spare parts down in the hold.
Bill Clinton: The Chris Matthews of South Carolina
They want to ensure that Bush, in Monday's State of the Union address, can accuse Senate Democrats of failing to act on FISA, and thus attack and mock them as being weak on national security and causing the Terrorists to be able to Slaughter Us All. And, rather pitifully, some Democrats are shocked -- so very upset -- that, yet again, their demonstrated willingness to give the Republicans everything they demanded has not prompted a Good, Nice, Courteous Response. "We did everything you told us to do. Why are you being so mean and unfair?" That sad posture is what led even Jay Rockefeller apparently to announce that he will vote against cloture on his own bill. Worse, even if Democrats prevent the Republicans' cloture vote on Monday, that will mean we'll just be right back to where we were before that happened: with a series of votes that will almost certainly end in the Senate with some form of retroactive immunity and vastly expanded warrantless eavesdropping powers.

Goodale, fooling no one, says, "We will decide as the official opposition when we think the time is appropriate to bring the government down. When that time arrives, we will in fact do that.&8221; Read: if we went into an election now, we would be slaughtered. The LPC have decided it would be inappropriate to be slaughtered now, so they have chosen to be slaughtered later. It's called borrowed time. Posted 31/10/07 at 1:05 PM EST | Link to Comment .
